Bridgeport Man Pleads Guilty To Kidnapping, Rape Of Ex-Girlfriend

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A 50-year-old Bridgeport man could serve as much as 20 years behind bars after he entered an Alford Doctrine guilty plea Friday to charges of kidnapping and raping his former girlfriend last year, the Connecticut Post said.

Superior Court Judge Robert Devlin told Nelson Rivera, whose plea asserts an innocent claim while acknowledging evidence could convict him, that he intends to impose the maximum sentence at a Nov. 18 hearing, the Post said.

Prosecutors said Rivera, whose been previously convicted of sex assault, kidnapped his ex-girlfriend, dragging her from her bed and home, and raped her at his house, the CT Post reports. Rivera had been facing several charges, including criminal attempted murder.
